What the totals include

Completed standard chess games from the accounts and dates you select. Aborted games, unsupported variants and unknown results stay out of the included totals. Wins, losses and draws are separate; win rate is wins divided by included games. A game between two selected accounts counts once as self-play, without adding a win or loss to the combined total.

Activity days use your chosen timezone. Chess.com and Lichess ratings remain separate by platform and time control.

Imported history and source changes

Account cards show import status, last successful sync and source availability. Totals can be partial while history is importing. Linked accounts refresh periodically while the worker is running.

Previously imported games remain in the shared catalog if a source account becomes unavailable or a later export omits a game. An omission does not reliably identify deletion. These totals describe retained imported history, and may differ from a provider's current displayed count. We do not fabricate missing games or silently turn unavailable history into zero.

Tracking and ownership

A public platform username is a source record. Being listed here does not mean that player registered with ChessSum or is online. You may track and compare public usernames. Only a supported verification flow establishes ownership; your ChessSum login and private account links remain separate.

Member profiles are optional. Combined member rankings use verified accounts and coverage rules; public source-account rankings cover eligible indexed accounts.

Reports, sharing and partner resources

Your saved reports, recommendations, learning statuses and inbox are private. A dedicated chess engine analyzes a bounded sample using a limited search budget, with recorded positions as evidence. Improvement stars describe comparable observed samples and do not prove that a specific lesson caused improvement.

Optional AI explanations summarize the recorded learning priorities. When local AI is selected, those themes stay on this computer. If an administrator configures an external AI provider instead, only anonymous themes and aggregate counts are sent, without nicknames, emails or game positions. Generated wording is saved with your private report; Chess-engine evidence remains available separately.

Public sharing requires a deliberate published snapshot. You choose the displayed fields and can revoke the link. Video downloads stay private until you share them yourself. Downloaded copies cannot be recalled.

Approved sponsor resources are labeled and matched to learning topics. They do not change findings or free practice recommendations. Interaction records are limited to signed-in account, campaign, UTC day and view/click type; advertisers receive aggregate counts, without viewer identities. These counts are not used for billing.

Private messages and ChessSum updates

ChessSum members can send a first message without a friend request. New senders appear in a separate review inbox. Contacts are a personal saved list. You can block messages, hide players and hide your online status. Online means recent activity here, not activity on another chess platform.

Conversation history is stored on our server and is not end-to-end encrypted. Only participants can open it through the app; the admin panel does not expose private conversations. Your data export includes messages. Deleting either account removes its associated conversations for both participants.

ChessSum announcements appear separately from friend messages. You can disable nonessential notifications in your inbox settings.

Lessons and learning rankings

Lesson bookmarks, board positions, practice answers, hints and review dates are stored in your account. Viewing a lesson is different from passing its practice. A lesson completion is counted once after unassisted practice in every variation from both sides.

Learning rankings are optional. In My learning, you can choose to show your display name and learning statistics. Imported chess usernames do not enter these rankings automatically. Practice accuracy describes recall of reference moves, not a chess rating. Learning records and attempts are included in your data export and removed when you delete your account.

Your controls

Use Settings to change profile visibility, export your data or delete your ChessSum login. Deletion removes private links, reports, community listings, campaigns, interaction records, notification preferences and referrals. Public source profiles and games remain in the shared catalog; minimal administrative audit records and one-time source-account referral markers can remain without the deleted login.

Email notifications and return-to-play reminders are optional. Quiet hours, frequency limits and unsubscribe controls are in your chess inbox. Local development currently saves email previews instead of sending them.
